Blogger's Quilt Festival {Single Girl}

one more for the Blogger's Quilt Festival!  since we're allowed two entries, i thought i'd add my Single Girl.  i decided to add it to the Quilt Photographer section.  fi you know me, you'll laugh at the irony of this!

here's the thing:  when I decided to open an Etsy shop and sell quilts, i realized i'd have to actually take photos of these quilts!  problem with this is that I'd never used a camera in my life.

*i clearly remember one time being randomly asked to take a photo for this group of folks on vacation.  they handed me the camera and i took it carefully, like a hot potato, or a china teacup.  and I didn't have a clue how to take the photo.  they had to show me the button to press to snap the photo...*

so i just added that to show you where i started from three years ago.  then i made a few quilts for my new shop, took my husband's little digital camera, and here's one of the first photos i took.

i've had lots of frustrating moments since then, trying to make my quilts look like something someone would want to buy.  trying to make the way they look in real life come through in a flat photo.  i've spent time reading and researching and quite a bit of trial and error, and i feel like i have a very long ways to go!  i've barely scratched the surface, but i'm here to tell you that you CAN improve your skills!  it does take practice and dedication though, it's not gonna just happen!

P.S.  To read more about this quilt, just search for 'single girl' on my blog.

  1. LOL, oh yes, I'm in the same boat. Still trying to take half-way decent quilt photos, feeling only inches up the learning curve. Your photos are lovely, way better than mine. Like the Single Girl quilt, too!

  5. You have definitely made some progress with your photography skills, these look great! I think that along with most things in life, learning the basics can get you pretty far. I do love this quilt, it is gorgeous. I am working on my first single girl quilt right now. It's just a baby quilt so I think there will have to be another in my future.

  15. SUCH a pretty quilt - I love how you used different neutrals for the background. And I could sure use some tips on taking pictures of quilts. Mine all look like your first one! Ha! Problem is that I have zero patience for that sort of thing.
