Sail Away

I've made this sailboat design a few times in the past.  This one is a classic look for a little boy.  I think my favorite part is the binding fabric paired with the backing.  The back is a Shot Cotton in Aqua.  This fabric is just extra soft and makes the whole quilt have a wonderful drape.

Even though I did dense straight line quilting, it is not stiff at all.  All I can figure out is that using a slightly softer fabric on the back, like a shot cotton or voile, gives the whole quilt a softer feel.

This quilt finished around 40" square.

  16. Lovely as always! Such a stylish baby quilt. I've made all of seven quilts so far and four have been backed in an aqua shot cotton like this, and those that haven't, I wished I had! My only complaint is the fraying but it won't stop me using shot cotton again because it's so soft and the colour is much more subtle than a comparable solid.

  17. That is such a wonderful quilt for a baby boy. It's not babyish but it's definitely suitable for a baby.
