Striped Quilt

This quilt was pieced back when I cleaned out all my blue and green scraps.  My favorite part is the hand quilting.  I had never quilted this traditional pattern before, but really enjoyed it, and love the way it looks.  I will definitely be doing it again.

The quilting pattern is called Baptist Fans, and I found a neat tutorial for a neat way of marking them when you don't have a stencil.  Here it is.  If I was going to do it often, I'd maybe get the stencil, but this worked quite well I thought.

I think this quilt is a good example of how I like to mix the modern and vintage vibes together to keep the quilt from fitting into one specific category.  It's scrappy, so that gives it a vintage feel.  The color coded stripes give it a more modern graphic edge.  Then the traditional hand quilting gives it a vintage feel again.  Do I explain myself?  I'm just realizing that this is an aspect I really like to put in my quilts, but hadn't verbalized it before.

  2. Beautiful! Love how you chose not to always alternate light & dark rows - another vintage-made-modern touch.

  5. so happy to see a post from you pop up in my feed :-) Beautiful quilt, as always. I imagine it was quite dreamy to quilt, what with that scrumptious double gauze backing. (My quilting doesn't fit into a category, either)

  7. I love baptist fans as a quilting pattern and yours looks fabulous!! I like the same style as you, kind of a modern twist (fabrics and graphic placement) mixed with traditional elements. I'm very impressed with your hand quilting!!
