Half Square Triangle Fall Quilt

This quilt started as a few leftover blocks from my previous fall quilts.  I wasn’t loving it, but decided to dilute the very rust and blue color scheme by gradually adding more fabrics in other colours as I continued out from the centre.

It worked!  I really like the finished quilt.  It still has a color scheme, but has enough of the scrappy vintage look that it doesn’t look too perfect.

Design wise, I made the centre of the diamond offset, and then decided to add a row of flying geese along the left side.  Fairly subtle, but it’s those little unexpected things that elevate a traditional design.

  2. How clever with the flying geese row along the left side!! I love stuff like that, in older quilts, one block out of kilter, they make me imagine about the maker and what happened there! Love it!!

  5. That’s a beautiful quilt. I am so tired of all of the white background quilts and all the sashing. That looks antique but you can machine wash it!
